We now live in a world where people are willing to purchase online based on others' recommendations, and testimonials are more important than ever for your personal trainer business. So to stand out from the crowd, why not mix this with the internet's fastest-growing form of media, video.

Our friends at PTD Ninja have put together these easy-to-follow steps below, which will give you the confidence to capture powerful and compelling video testimonials from your clients.

Step One

Ask them to share the results they attained and the story of how the results came about and their life before you started working together.

For example, if you had a weight loss plan, you may want your customer to share how overweight they were, what their life was like, and the specific struggle they were going through. In addition, you want your client to express the pain that they were in, their low energy, and all the areas of their life this affected.

Finally, you want them to share the emotions they were experiencing. How frustrating it was for them not to be able to fit in the clothes they liked, how insecure they felt when they would go to the beach and take off their clothes and how they felt when they saw themselves in the mirror.

Step Two

In the next step, you want to ask your client to say how they found out about you. This could have been through a friend or on social media. Also, you will want to ask them what was their initial reaction to your content.

Whatever people’s first reactions were, you want them to talk about it. Whether they didn’t think it was worth it, whether they weren’t sure if they could do it or whatever, because the people that are going to be watching this testimonial will have those same feelings when they meet you, and this will help reduce those objections and resistance.

Step Three

In the next step, you want your client to identify why they decided to sign up with you. For example: “I decided to join because I saw the results of the other clients, and I thought if they can do it, I can too.” Or “When I heard your story, I felt sure you could help me.”

People will say many different reasons why they decided to join, and you need this because the reasons other people joined your program will be the same reasons the testimonial viewers are going to join. So they need to hear it from your clients to convince them to take the plunge.

Step Four

At this stage, we want to determine what your customers have learned from your fitness course. For example, you could ask them if they learned to diet correctly, if they learned to make time for themselves, or if they learned it doesn't require an hour a day in the gym.

Step Five

Step five is about getting indirect positive outcomes from working with you and how these changed their lives. For example, this could have been that your client ran a marathon, was able to drop three dress sizes or found love.

Step Six

You want your customer to share their emotional benefits from working with you. For example, I feel confident on a night out. I feel proud and productive at work.

The more emotional the language and the energy in the testimonial, the more compelling it will be. Emotions are personal and universal at the same time. They are the fuel that drives decisions.

When you share emotions, people feel it. They come out of the intellectual and into the visceral. Remember, people buy with emotions and rationalize after it with intelligence.

Step Seven

Most of your clients would rather give you a written testimonial, but a good tip is to always ask for a video testimonial first; if they say no, get a written one. Video is so much more powerful for many reasons. Additionally, at a later date you can extract the words and turn them into a written testimonial using a tool, such as Trint
